She said she withdrew for the safety and wellbeing of herself and family. South Africa’s national beauty pageant has been enmeshed in controversy after the government accused Chidimma’s mother of fraud and identity theft. Consequently, Chidimma, 23, has been the subject of hostile, xenophobic attacks on social media after she was announced as a finalist in the competition in July. Many had questioned her credentials, including cabinet ministers. The controversy the issue generated led to an investigation into her citizenship by the Home Affairs Ministry, after a request from the pageant’s organisers.  Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members begin orientation August 28 The National Youth Service Corps has announced the schedule for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course. The announcement was contained in a circular dated August 7, 2023, and titled “2024 Batch “B” Orientation Course”. It was signed by the Director, PRS, Ahmed Ikaka, for the Director General of the corps. The circular noted that the orientation exercise will take place across all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory. The orientation course is set to commence on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with registration slated to run from August 28 to August 30. The deadline for registration is set at midnight on Friday, August 30, 2024.  NNPCL Speaks On Ikeja Filling Station Explosion The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has clarified issues surrounding the reported fire at the Mobil filling station at Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday. A statement by Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd, Olufemi Soneye after the incident, said the explosion had nothing to do with the recently commissioned NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd (NGML)/NIPCO Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Stations, which are currently functioning and running safely without any incident. Two people were reported to have sustained burns, and property worth millions of naira was damaged. Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred around 11 a.m., destroying at least seven vehicles. No fatalities were reported.
