Hillary Clinton's White House UFC jab backfires after critics point out what her husband did in 'our house' Hillary Clinton’s criticism of Donald Trump’s decision to host a UFC event at the White House sparked immediate backlash from conservatives. Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 election, posted that the White House is “not his house” but “our house,” while promoting merchandise to support candidates she said would respect the institution.  Her remarks, however, were met with accusations of hypocrisy, with critics pointing to controversies from her and Bill Clinton’s time in office. Representative Tim Burchett and retired Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson were among those who responded sharply, referencing Bill Clinton’s scandal with Monica Lewinsky and alleged misconduct during his presidency.  Patterson, who said he carried the nuclear football for Clinton, accused Hillary of lecturing about respect while her husband engaged in inappropriate behavior and mishandled sensi...

Renewed fighting erupts in Syria amid interim government’s efforts to reduce factional tensions New outbreaks of violence erupted overnight into Sunday in Syria at two separate hotspots, putting a fragile ceasefire under severe strain and raising doubts about the transitional government’s ability to maintain control nationwide. In the north, fighters aligned with the government clashed with Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who control much of the region. Meanwhile, in the southern Sweida province, government forces confronted Druze armed groups. These incidents come amid ongoing efforts by Syria’s interim government, led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, to uphold a tense truce in Sweida after last month’s clashes with Druze factions, and to implement an agreement with the U.S.-backed SDF aimed at reintegrating northeastern Syria under Damascus’s authority. Since Sharaa’s surprise insurgency ousted Bashar Assad in December, ending decades of Assad family rule, the transitio...

Rescuers recover 4 of 5 copper miners trapped in collapsed Chilean shaft The bodies of four of the five miners trapped for three days in a collapsed section of one of Chile’s largest copper mines have been recovered and identified, officials confirmed Sunday. Rescue teams at the El Teniente mine, located about 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of Santiago, continue searching for the fifth miner, Moises Pavez, according to mine director Andres Music. The miners were located using GPS devices, but rescuers had to drill through dozens of meters of rock to reach them. The collapse followed a 4.2 magnitude earthquake on Thursday, which killed one worker and injured nine others. Authorities are investigating whether the quake was natural or possibly triggered by mining activities at El Teniente. Chilean prosecutors have also opened a criminal investigation to determine if safety regulations were breached. El Teniente, situated in the Andes mountains, is the world’s largest underground cop...

ANN HARRIS, EDITOR OF NUMEROUS BEST SELLERS, DIES AT 99.(PHOTO).

Ann Harris, editor of numerous best sellers, dies at 99 In 1969, after years of writing comedic novels and screenplays, William Peter Blatty secured a $10,000 advance to write a very different kind of book—his horror novel “The Exorcist.” The manuscript was so frightening, Blatty later recalled, that his secretary was too scared to work on it alone at home. However, before publication, the novel’s intricate plot and characters had to be carefully refined by an editor: Ann Schakne Harris, a meticulous editor who was gaining recognition in Manhattan’s publishing world during the 1960s for her exceptional editorial skills. For six weeks, Blatty and Harris worked intensively at a New York hotel, shaping what would become a landmark in the genre of theological horror. When published in 1971, “The Exorcist” went on to sell 13 million copies in the U.S. alone and became one of the decade’s best-selling novels. This breakthrough marked a turning point in Harris’s editorial career, which spanne...

Anthony Virdure II, 30, stole the checks while working at the St. Louis Processing and Distribution Center on Market Street. Authorities began investigating after stolen checks were found in a rental vehicle returned in December 2023, with some bearing Virdure’s fingerprints. Additional checks were discovered in a vacated apartment in January 2024, again linked to the distribution center and bearing his fingerprints. In late April 2024, law enforcement searched Virdure’s apartment and recovered nearly 300 stolen checks, many with his fingerprints. The total face value of the stolen checks exceeded $1.5 million, with checks linked directly to Virdure amounting to over $68,000. Virdure also admitted to ...
