 Türkiye, Somalia to cooperate in fisheries sector Türkiye’s industrial group OYAK and Somalia’s Fisheries and Blue Economy Ministry on Wednesday signed a strategic cooperation and services agreement to cooperate in the fisheries sector. The signing ceremony, held at OYAK headquarters in the capital Ankara, was attended by Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, Somali Ports and Marine Transport Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, Somali Fisheries and Blue Economy Minister Ahmed Hassan Aden, Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, OYAK Chair Zekai Aksakalli, and Murat Yalcintas, the CEO of OYAK. The agreement aims to ensure that fisheries activities in Somalia are carried out under a centralized, sustainable, and fully registered framework, Anadolu Agency reported. CUSTOMS INTERCEPTED 1,300 JERRY CANS OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS WITH A DUTY PAID VALUE OF N12,543,960.(PHOTO).

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Saturday said it intercepted  1,300 jerry cans of petroleum products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N12,543,960.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bello Mohammed Jibo, said the arrest was made on Wednesday, 6 April 2022. He said  the 1,300 jerry cans of petroleum products (30 litres each) is equivalent to 39,000 litres.

“This arrest is coming at a time when the Government is spending huge resources to subside the products to ameliorate the plight of its citizens, but these unscrupulous and unpatriotic elements are bent on sabotaging the efforts of the government. It is on this premise that the Officers and Men of the Command, redoubled their efforts with renewed vigour in the fight against smuggling of the petroleum product.” He explained.

Jibo attributed the successes recorded to consistency on the part of the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service in providing the needed logistics, adequate working tools, support and ensuring hard-working officers are recognized and rewarded most especially through promotions.

The CAC in a press statement signed by the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSC Hussaini Abdullahi, affirmed the commitment of the Command to ensuring illegal and unlawful businesses are suppressed and discouraged at borders.

According to him, the continuous monitoring and surveillance of the border axis, has contributed to suppressing such illegal activities and sent the right signal to people involved in such unfortunate acts of smuggling to desist and face lawful businesses along the border axis.
