As this year’s Ramadan gradually comes to an end, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has again lauded the roles of women and youths in governance, saying that it is impossible for any government aiming to succeed to ignore the contributions of women and the youth population.
Sanwo-Olu stated this in his address to the Muslim faithful who attended the 2023 Laylatul-Qadr Eve Special Prayer (Night of Majesty) organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs in conjunction with the First Family of Lagos State, at the Lagos House Mosque Ground, in Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday.
The Governor said that his administration takes cognizance of women and youth in the constitution of the present Executive Council and other appointments, assuring that his second term tenure will also give a prime place for women and youth.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who alluded to the aptness of the lectures delivered by invited Muslim Clerics at the event, maintained that protecting and educating the girl-child should be the responsibility of all dutiful Muslim parents, just as he admonished parents to make themselves available to the needs of their children.
While appreciating the Muslim community for supporting his administration since its inception, the Governor pleaded for their continuous support and prayers, especially during this period of Ramadan.
He described this year’s Ramadan, coinciding with Christians’ annual Lenten season as symbolic and an indication that only prayers can make him exceed the expectations of Lagosians and also implement impactful projects and policies.
Citing the outcome of the just concluded general elections as proof of answered prayers for his re-election for another term of four years and the victory of the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in God that Nigeria under the leadership of the President-Elect will blossom.
He, therefore, enjoined Muslims to sustain the selflessness and prayerful dispositions displayed during the period of fasting and embrace piety at all times, this, according to him, is most pleasing to God.
Earlier, One of the Guest Lecturers at the event, Sheik Abdul Hakeem Lawal, called on Muslims to make prayers a way of life against praying only during difficult times or for accumulating success.
The Guest Lecturer, whose lecture was titled: “The Place of Dua in Surmounting Life Challenges (After a Difficulty, Comes Ease)”, specifically, coveted prayers for the country’s next dispensation such that naysayers can be put to shame with their fake prophesies.
In her vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lolade Aina expressed the Ministry’s appreciation to the First Family for their unwavering support towards the event while also thanking all dignitaries who graced the occasion, especially the Muslim Clerics and government officials.
Members of the State Executive Council and Permanent Secretaries of MDAs also attended the event.
