 HAJJ 2026: 1600 LAGOS PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY FROM MAKKAH The 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the just-concluded Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have all arrived safely to join their respective families. The safe arrival of the last and final batch of 187 pilgrims on Saturday marked the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj operations. Speaking to journalists at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the Amir-ul-Hajj and State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode said that the spiritual exercise was a success for Lagos State. The Commissioner who attributed the success to the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims while in the Holy Land maintained that the State also made adequate arrangements by engaging critical stakeholders ahead of the journey. GROUP EXTOLS ROLE OF OPERATION SAFE HAVEN IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION



The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution has extolled the roles of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) in conflict management and resolution. The group made the remarks today 8 June 2023, during a courtesy visit to Headquarters OPSH in Jos. 


Speaking during the visit, the Head of Zonal Office Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mr Adejo Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the early response mechanism recently  put in place by OPSH to checkmate crisis on the Plateau. He disclosed that the institute is a federal government lead agency established to engage in conflict resolution and peace-building in Sub-Saharan Africa.


Mr Adejo further stressed that the institute has enhanced the use of non-kinetic approach, research, interventions and capacity building of crisis-affected communities. He further maintained that non-kinetic and kinetic approaches are required to permanently address and prevent recurring of conflicts on the Plateau. 


The Zonal Head who also  presented a report on the dynamics of conflict in Nigeria and on the Plateau as well as the way forward to commander OPSH, said both agencies must continually collaborate to achieve effective peace and conflict resolution in areas marked vulnerable to conflict. 


In his response, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA) and Commander OPSH, Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, thanked the group for its support to the security agencies in managing the conflicts, especially in the area of recurring farmer/herder crisis on the plateau. He also tasked the people to continually support the efforts of the security agencies in tackling insecurity by uniting against the enemies of peace. 


General Ibrahim assured that, OPSH will continue to engage relevant organisations and stakeholders in a bid to applying new strategies to improve the security of lives and property of people in various communities and bring an end to conflicts  on the Plateau and the country at large. The GOC/Comd OPSH stated that there is no conflict-free society however, the ability to resolve conflicts within the shortest possible time is essential to the healthy existence of the society. 


High point of the visit was the presentation of a report on the dynamics of conflict in Nigeria  and the way forward to GOC/Comd OPSH, presentation of souvenir and group photograph.
