Interior Minister Advocates Collaborative Governance Approach
The Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has stressed the need for collaboration across different tiers of government to enhance efficient service delivery.
Addressing the leadership of the Abuja Municipal Council during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the common goal shared by all levels of government, which is the welfare of the people.
He assured the council chairman of his commitment to fostering collaboration for the betterment of the municipality, stressing the collective responsibility of all tiers of government towards improving the lives of citizens.
Recognizing the intricacies of local council administration and its direct impact on the people, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged the council chairman, Hon. Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, to prioritise the interests of the youths and leave a positive legacy for future generations.
"Collaboration in governance is not just a choice but a necessity. Together, we can create a legacy of effective service delivery and improved lives for our people.
"As leaders, we stand at the intersection of responsibility and opportunity. Let's not dwell on the past but focus on solutions that shape a better future for generations to come. Our commitment is to the people," the Minister said.
He further urged the council leadership to draw inspiration from the positive legacies of past leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, and Nnamdi Azikiwe to solving contemporary challenges rather than dwelling on past mistakes.
Earlier in his speech, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Council, Hon. Maikalangu, expressed the readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Interior in safeguarding lives and properties within the municipality.
Highlighting the diverse nature of the municipality, the Chairman emphasised the need for strategic partnerships to effectively address security challenges in the city.
Hon. Maikalangu also proposed the utilisation of local youths for security intelligence, citing their familiarity with the intricacies of the council's terrain.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to explore avenues for collaboration and harness the potential of local resources for the collective benefit of the community.
