Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported.  MAPOLY May Expel 49 Final-Year Students Over Fake ND Results

….. Reinstates Students’ Union Executive

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) may expel 49 final-year Higher National Diploma (HND) students after a result verification process revealed they allegedly submitted fake National Diploma (ND) results for admission into the HND programs.

The verification update, released by the institution, identified affected students across departments such as Mass Communication, Pharmaceutical Technology, Marketing, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Accountancy. Fake results were reportedly sourced from institutions including The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; and Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State.

MAPOLY’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, explained that the verification process was part of routine checks to authenticate documents submitted by students. He noted that while some results were awaiting confirmation from issuing institutions, others were confirmed as fake.

Ajibola clarified that the affected students would not be expelled immediately but would be invited to defend their results. "If errors are identified in the verification process, they will be rectified. However, students unable to substantiate their results will face expulsion," he said.

Meanwhile, MAPOLY management has reinstated the Students’ Union Executive Council, which was dissolved earlier this week following a planned student protest.

The reinstatement followed the intervention of the institution’s Governing Council, led by Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun. The council directed the union to oversee upcoming elections and transfer leadership to newly elected officials within four weeks.

In a statement, Ajibola thanked the staff, students, and the community for their patience and cooperation during the recent challenges and expressed optimism for a smooth resolution.
