 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. FUBARA EXUDES CONFIDENCE, TELLS SUPPORTERS VICTORY IS IMMINENT. (PHOTO)


 

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured his supporters that victory is inevitable, despite the current political challenges in the state. Speaking during the commissioning of the Government House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Fubara emphasized that the struggle is not just about winning, but about standing for truth and fighting gallantly.

He began his speech by reading a passage from the Holy Bible, Philippians 3:18-19, which emphasizes faith and resilience in the face of challenges. Governor Fubara declared that the era of deception in Rivers State is over and that the state is now determined to take control of its destiny.


While reaffirming his commitment to peace, Governor Fubara stated that necessary decisions will be made in the best interest of the state when the time comes. "I am not afraid of anything. The worst that can happen is for me to leave office," he said, underscoring his resolve to stand by his principles.


The governor also addressed the youth, assuring them that they will receive the necessary direction at the right time. Reacting to the Supreme Court's ruling that nullified the local government elections, Governor Fubara maintained that the future holds greater promise than the past.


He pledged to complete his tenure with honor and integrity, ensuring that his decisions remain defensible. Governor Fubara emphasized the need to counter political propaganda with evidence of purposeful governance, citing the ongoing inauguration of state projects as a testament to his administration's commitment to progress.
