First responders received a call regarding an explosion that led to a house fire in Butler at approximately 11:30 p.m., this Saturday, March 1st.
When crews arrived on scene they learned that 5 people lived in the home but only 3 had made it out. They learned that as they escaped the flames, they were tragically unable to get two 2-year-old children out of the home.
Firefighters attempted to rescue the two trapped toddlers but were driven back by the intense flames. Sadly, both toddlers perished in the home.
The three individuals who were able to escape the home were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The Bates County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office have launched an investigation into the cause of the house fire.
Our thoughts are with the families of these two precious young victims.
