 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo. SENATE ORDERS INEC TO CONDUCT BY-ELECTIONS IN EDO CENTRAL AND ANAMBRA SOUTH. (PHOTO).

The Senate has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct by-elections to fill the vacant seats in Edo Central and Anambra South Senatorial Districts.


Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday, officially declaring the vacancies.


The Edo Central seat has been vacant since December 2024, when Monday Okpebholo was inaugurated as Governor of Edo State. Similarly, the Anambra South seat has remained unoccupied since the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July 2024.


INEC had earlier stated that it was awaiting a formal request from the Senate before proceeding with a by-election for Anambra South.


With both senatorial districts currently unrepresented in the upper legislative chamber, Akpabio urged INEC to conduct the elections to restore representation for the affected constituencies.
