Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State. The Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is a multi-state infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and economic activities across northern and southern Nigeria. More...

Prosecutors respond after Diddy requests bail before sentencing

Federal prosecutors have strongly opposed Diddy's request for bail ahead of his sentencing, challenging his efforts to minimize his convictions related to transporting male escorts across state lines for paid sexual encounters involving his former girlfriends.

In court filings submitted Thursday, prosecutors argued that Diddy should remain in custody while awaiting sentencing after being convicted on two counts of violating the Mann Act. Although he was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges, prosecutors maintain his conduct warrants continued detention.

Diddy had filed a motion earlier, asking the judge to overturn his Mann Act convictions on the grounds that the law applies to transporting individuals for sex acts, which he denies having done himself. He claims he never engaged in sex with the escorts and only filmed his ex-girlfriends, Cassie and “Jane,” who arranged the encounters. Alternatively, he requested a new trial solely on the Mann Act counts.

Prosecutors fired back, stating that Diddy’s crimes include “aggravating — not mitigating — factors” that justify holding him. They highlight that he transported individuals for prostitution on numerous occasions over many years and allege he supplied Cassie and Jane with drugs to ensure their participation in prolonged sexual events, while subjecting them to violent behavior.

Opposing his $50 million bond request, the government emphasized Diddy’s history of violence and the risk he poses to the community. They also warned he is a flight risk, given the substantial prison time he faces.

Judge Arun Subramanian will have to carefully weigh these arguments as the case moves toward sentencing.
