 HAJJ 2026: 1600 LAGOS PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY FROM MAKKAH The 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the just-concluded Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have all arrived safely to join their respective families. The safe arrival of the last and final batch of 187 pilgrims on Saturday marked the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj operations. Speaking to journalists at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the Amir-ul-Hajj and State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode said that the spiritual exercise was a success for Lagos State. The Commissioner who attributed the success to the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims while in the Holy Land maintained that the State also made adequate arrangements by engaging critical stakeholders ahead of the journey.  BLOODBATH IN TARABA AS OVER 70 FEARED KILLED, 35 CHURCHES VANDALISED IN TAKUM 



Fresh violence has rocked Chanchanji Council Ward of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, where no fewer than 70 persons are feared killed and about 35 churches reportedly vandalised in coordinated attacks on several communities.


Sources within the area told newsmen that the attacks were carried out simultaneously, leaving scores of residents dead, homes razed and places of worship destroyed. The scale of the destruction has forced many locals to flee their homes, heightening tension in the affected communities.


According to a list released by community leaders, those killed include men, women and a Christian cleric, while one resident was said to have been abducted during the assault.


The victims identified include Terla Tyonenge, Dajo Senga, Sonter Msugh, Fanbo Orhena, Kundushima Yaor, Verlor Tyowus, Tyowua Firgha, Apinen Ikyondo, Gwa Osaugh, Aondona Gia, Terngu Gia, Usha Tumbee, Tyolumun Daida, Terzungwa Tilinga, Tordue Toryiln, Ornan Orgen, Mgbekenger Sawua, Zunguior Akigh, Mama Ageaor Kpaor, Terzungwe Chia, Mnenge Abiadu, Msugh Gaza, Saulu Kwazan, Tyonenge Ikpughun, Igbaga Mbakuaga, Mtera Akulaan, Mary Joseph, Tornongo Kpega, Atsator Ayal, Tyoor Orya, Usenga Pevikyaa, Gbaka Kalo, Luper Mulega, who was reportedly taken alive, Pastor Doose Mbathembe, Aperaku Ondoaver Kua Kwase Na, Aondover Kparev Ugosol, Tyoakula Atsenga, Aondosoo Shacia, Aondoakura Kurave, Gogo Atindiga, Aondonengen Apine, Aondo Ijewua, Ushahemba Kerchia, Abraham Apine, Kumater Igo, Terlumun Apetimin, Jimeshin Mbaume, Orera Lorhom, Abraham Anyoho, Angoboga Mbagbe, Vershima Orhungs, Mary Kircivir, Orlega Maughaonde, Kwaghsaanga Aniv, Emmatue Fortan, Kumaaron Aperilighin, Maaserin Alibo, Chia Atunku, Zaki Agbaibo Tetan and Mverve Akombo, among others.


Residents have appealed to the Taraba State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene, deploy adequate security personnel to the area and prevent further loss of lives and property.


As at press time, there was no official response from the police or the Taraba State Government on the incident.
