 HAJJ 2026: 1600 LAGOS PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY FROM MAKKAH The 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the just-concluded Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have all arrived safely to join their respective families. The safe arrival of the last and final batch of 187 pilgrims on Saturday marked the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj operations. Speaking to journalists at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the Amir-ul-Hajj and State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode said that the spiritual exercise was a success for Lagos State. The Commissioner who attributed the success to the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims while in the Holy Land maintained that the State also made adequate arrangements by engaging critical stakeholders ahead of the journey.  FG mourns Rubaya Mine Collapse In DRC


Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has extended Nigeria's heartfelt condolences to the Government and citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo, over the deadly collapse of the Rubaya Coltan Mine in eastern part of the DRC, that claimed over 200 lives and left many others injured, leaving entire communities in mourning.


In a statement from the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kimiebi Ebienfa, Yusuf Tuggar commended local authorities and emergency responders for their efforts to rescue victims and provide medical care.


The Minister expressed Nigeria's solidarity and readiness in support for humanitarian efforts, stating that the thoughts and prayers of the Government and people of Nigeria are with the people of the  Congo at this difficult time.


The statement recalled that reports indicated the mine collapse, triggered by heavy rainfall, has highlighted the extreme dangers faced by vulnerable communities in mineral-rich regions.
