 HAJJ 2026: 1600 LAGOS PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY FROM MAKKAH The 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the just-concluded Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have all arrived safely to join their respective families. The safe arrival of the last and final batch of 187 pilgrims on Saturday marked the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj operations. Speaking to journalists at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the Amir-ul-Hajj and State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode said that the spiritual exercise was a success for Lagos State. The Commissioner who attributed the success to the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims while in the Holy Land maintained that the State also made adequate arrangements by engaging critical stakeholders ahead of the journey. DSS CRUSHES ARMS TRAFFICKING SYNDICATE IN GOMBE

 

The Department of State Services says its operative have dismantled a suspected arms trafficking ring in Gombe State, arresting two alleged couriers and recovering two Rocket Propelled Grenade warheads, an RPG launcher, and other weapons.


A statement by the DSS notes that The suspects  Muhammed Alhaji Mohammed, 55, and Sani Gesha, 47 were intercepted at Mararaban Tula in Kaltungo Local Government Area while travelling in a grey Toyota Corolla with registration number Taraba JAL475YQ.


Security sources say the operation followed three weeks of covert surveillance targeting a notorious arms network operating across Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Adamawa States. The suspects reportedly confessed that the weapons were destined for a contact in Kukawa Village, Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State.


In a related development, DSS operatives rescued a six-year-old boy, Mohammed Jabir, allegedly lured and kidnapped under the guise of teaching him how to ride a motorcycle.


The suspect, Salisu Hussain, has also been taken into custody.

The child has since been reunited with his grateful parents.


All suspects remain in DSS custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
