Teen killed, three injured in shooting outside Northern California high school graduation ceremony

A teenager was killed and three other people, including an 11-year-old child, were injured when gunfire broke out outside a high school graduation ceremony in Northern California, authorities said.

Police said the shooting happened around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of Fairfield High School, shortly after a ceremony held for Sem Yeto High School graduates had concluded. Officials said four people were struck in the incident, including an 18-year-old who was pronounced dead at the scene, along with victims aged 11, 20, and 25 who suffered injuries.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the 18-year-old who died was a graduating student. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and any potential motive remain under investigation, and police have not released information about any suspects.

Officials said there was no ongoing threat to the public following the incident. However, investigators noted that approximately 1,000 people attended the graduation ceremony, leaving a large number of potential witnesses to the shooting.

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and continuing to pursue investigative leads as they work to determine what led to the violence.

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District said it is aware of the incident and expressed concern for those affected, saying its thoughts are with the victims and their families as the investigation continues.
