Antonio Banderas details leaving Hollywood after massive heart attack

Antonio Banderas has spoken candidly about how his near-fatal heart attack in 2017 became a turning point in his life.

The 65-year-old actor described the experience as a “serious warning” that forced him to reevaluate his priorities and recognize his true passion for theater.

In the aftermath, he quit smoking, sold his private jet, and returned to his hometown of Málaga, Spain, with his longtime partner Nicole Kimpel, embracing a simpler and more grounded lifestyle.

Since then, Banderas has balanced occasional film and television roles with his work at Teatro del Soho, a nonprofit theater he owns in Málaga.

He says the venue keeps him connected to his roots and community, bringing him more happiness than he has ever known.

For him, the heart attack stripped away the distractions of fame and wealth, reminding him to focus on what truly matters: his craft, his heritage, and his relationships.

Looking back, Banderas has even called the health scare “one of the best things” that ever happened to him.

He explained that facing death made him realize how much time he had wasted worrying about trivial matters.

Now, he treasures his family including daughter Stella and stepdaughter Dakota Johnson and his vocation as an actor, while letting go of things that once seemed important but ultimately weren’t.

For Banderas, the wake-up call gave him clarity, gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose.
