NSC CHAIRMAN HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF PARA ATHLETES IN NIGERIAN SPORTS AS FIRST LADY DECLARES 3RD NATIONAL PARA GAMES CLOSED
Las Vegas performer Maren Flagg, also known as Maren Wade, filed a federal lawsuit Monday against Taylor Swift, alleging that Swift’s 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl” infringes on Flagg’s trademarked brand, “Confessions of a Showgirl.” Flagg claims she first used the name in 2014 for a column in the Las Vegas Weekly chronicling her life as a performer and secured a trademark in 2015. Over the next decade, the brand expanded into live shows, touring productions, and digital content.
In the complaint filed in Los Angeles federal court, Flagg says the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office refused to register Swift’s trademark due to its similarity to her existing mark. She alleges Swift and her team continued using the name, leading to widespread consumer confusion, with fans online mistakenly connecting Swift’s album to Flagg’s brand. Flagg argues that Swift’s greater commercial reach threatens to overshadow her trademark and diminish her control over the identity and goodwill she has built over the years. Swift’s representatives have not responded to requests for comment. “The Life of a Showgirl” became Swift’s 12th studio album, recording the largest sales week in U.S. music history upon its release and achieving her 15th No. 1 album, breaking records for solo artists in the 21st century.
