Tom Holland Says Zendaya Helped Save a Scene in New Spider-Man Film

Tom Holland has opened up about how his relationship with Zendaya helped improve a scene in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Speaking on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, the British actor said working alongside Zendaya brings a level of trust and honesty that can make a real difference during filming.

According to Holland, one particular scene raised concerns after his portion had already been filmed. When cameras shifted to Zendaya's coverage, he felt comfortable enough to ask for her honest opinion.

“I said, ‘Do you think this scene is working?’” Holland recalled. Zendaya's response was straightforward.

“‘No, I don't think the scene is working at all.’”

After hearing her thoughts, Holland checked in with producers, who also agreed the scene was not landing as intended. He then approached director Destin Daniel Cretton and shared his concerns.

Holland said he explained that neither he nor Zendaya was connecting with the emotions the scene was supposed to deliver.

Rather than pushing ahead, the director listened carefully. Holland praised Cretton for remaining calm and open to feedback. The production team eventually paused work on the scene, allowing the director and a writer to revisit it.

The following day, the scene was rewritten and filmed again.

“We came in the next day, we reshot the scene, and I'm so glad that we did because it sings in the movie,” Holland said.

The actor admitted that the conversation only felt natural because it was Zendaya sitting across from him.

“I couldn't imagine doing what I do without her,” he said, reflecting on both their professional partnership and personal relationship.

Looking back, Holland joked that asking such a direct question of an actress he wasn't dating might have felt awkward.

For him, the trust he shares with Zendaya made it easier to be honest when something did not feel right, ultimately leading to a stronger scene on screen.
