 Lagos increases boarding fees from N35,000 to N100,000 per term The Lagos State Government has increased boarding fees in all secondary schools across the state from N35,000 to N100,000 per term. A letter addressed to all boarding school principals, signed by Olufemi Asaolu, Director of Basic Education Services at the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, read: “I have the directive of the Honourable Commissioner to inform all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State that the State Government has approved the review of the Boarding fee payable in all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State.  Naira depreciates to N1,655/$ in parallel market The Naira yesterday depreciated to N1,655 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,645 per dollar traded on Wednesday. Similarly, the Naira yesterday depreciated to N1,649.76 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for NAFEM rose to N1,649.76 per dollar from N1,558.75 per dollar on Wednesday, indicating N91.01 depreciation for the naira. Consequently, the margin between the parallel market and NAFEM rate narrowed to N5.24 per dollar from N86.25 per dollar the previous day.

 ANAMBRA STATE PROPERTIES IN ENUGU ARE NOT FOR SALE! Paul Nwosu The properties of Anambra State domiciled in Enugu after the sharing of assets of the old Anambra State are not for sale. This declaration was made by the Managing Director of Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Hon Chike Anyaonu.   It needs to be recalled that after the creation of states in August 1991 the Federal Government in 1992 undertook the sharing of assets between the then two newly created states, namely Anambra and Enugu States. The properties inherited by Anambra State in Abuja and Lagos have not had any problems whatsoever, but the ones in Enugu are surreptitiously being preyed upon for sale by some individuals that Hon Anyaonu described as unscrupulous scavengers and grabbers.  Three US citizens sentenced to death in Congo over role in failed coup A military court in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday sentenced 37 people including three Americans to death in a trial over an “attempted coup” in May. The defendants, who also included a Briton, Belgian, Canadian and several Congolese, can appeal the verdict on charges that included terrorism, murder and criminal association. Fourteen people were acquitted in the trial, which opened in June.��Armed men briefly occupied an office of the presidency in the capital Kinshasa on May 19 before their leader, US-based Congolese politician Christian Malanga, was killed by security forces.
