 TW- A Connecticut officer arrived on the scene to find a suspect fatally attacking his unconscious father with a baseball bat. The officer fired nearly 20 rounds, with most or all striking the son, before the son finally stopped the assault.  This sad incident took place in Meridian, Connecticut, on Sunday- July 19th.  On that date, officers from the Meridian Police Department responded to a local residence after receiving multiple calls from panicked and screaming neighbors and bystanders. The callers described a "severe domestic incident" taking place with an "armed aggressor" at approximately 10:00 a.m.  The first officer on the scene was Anthony Offiaeli. He witnessed 38-year-old Robert Lee Jenkins lll carrying out an absolutely savage attack on a man lying prone and unconscious on the ground.  Workers' Group Backs Nurses' Strike, Calls For Removal Of Kaduna Hospital Director The Workers' Rights Campaign (WRC) has thrown its weight behind the strike ultimatum issued by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives – Federal Health Institutions (NANNM-FHI) against the management of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Barnawa, Kaduna State. In a statement signed by WRC Chairperson Frances Akinjole and Secretary Bàbá Ayé, the group accused the hospital management of victimising union leaders, intimidating nurses, and failing to implement agreements previously reached with workers. The WRC warned that if the issues remain unresolved within the union's 15-day ultimatum, nurses will begin a three-day warning strike on July 29. It also called on nurses in federal health institutions across the country to prepare for coordinated industrial action in solidarity with their colleagues in Kaduna. GHANA: Man jailed for breaking into his girlfriend's mother's house room to retrieve items he bought for her A 28-year-old man, Bismark Aduah is currently serving time at the Winneba Local Prison in Ghana for theft after he broke into his girlfriend's mother's room.    Speaking to Crime Check, he explained that he and his girlfriend had been in a relationship for nine years and had lived in Ashaiman for the past two years.   According to him, Rebecca’s mother did not like him and did not approve of their relationship.   Bismark said that he and his girlfriend returned to the mother’s house to retrieve the items he bought for her.  They broke the door and lock, and later took the things to the girl's father’s residence.    The mother pressed charges against both of them, and they were arrested and detained.   Bismark stated that the Afransi Court sentenced him to five months imprisonment and imposed a GH¢1,560 fine. Abia: Five Members of a Family Found Dead in Osisioma Home The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths of five members of the same family whose decomposing bodies were discovered in their residence at Umuimo village, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The victims have been identified as Mr. Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife Mrs. Chinaza Nnabugwu, and their three young children. According to neighbors, the family had not been seen outside their home since Sunday. ICPC Uncovers 908 Ghost Workers in Federal Payroll Fraud, Police Tops List with 570 Suspects The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has identified the Nigeria Police Force and several federal ministries and agencies as having the highest number of suspected ghost workers in its ongoing payroll verification exercise. ICPC Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN) disclosed the findings while speaking on the commission’s investigation into payroll fraud across Federal Government institutions, according to a BBC Pidgin report on Wednesday.  DSS RESCUES REMAINING FOUR KIDNAPPED KAURA NAMODA FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS The Department of State Services (DSS) has rescued the four remaining students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, abducted by bandits in Zamfara State. A statement by the DSS says the students regain their freedom during a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out without the payment of ransom. One suspected kidnapper is arrested, while others are neutralised. The students are among six abducted from their off-campus hostel in Kaura Namoda on June 3. Two regain freedom earlier, while sustained security operations secure the safe rescue of the remaining four. The latest breakthrough comes days after the DSS rescued a professor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, reinforcing the agency's sustained offensive against kidnapping and its commitment to protecting lives and improving public safety.

 More than 100 people hospitalised, 150 homes damaged in Algeria fires More than 100 people were hospitalised after wildfires reached nearly 150 homes in a small town in north-eastern Algeria, the country's interior minister said. The fires broke out on Tuesday in Seraidi, a town west of the city of Annaba surrounded by forests. Interior Minister Said Sayoud told reporters at a local hospital that most of the hospitalised people were in a "stable and reassuring" condition, adding that more than 150 homes had been affected by the fires. Algeria has been grappling with hundreds of wildfires for days, with at least six people dead in several provinces, according to the interior ministry. A court in Algiers said on Wednesday that four people had been placed in pre-trial detention for "setting fires within forest areas" around northeastern Algeria's Constantine province.

The investigation stems from an incident that occurred on 16th July 2026, when a police officer's mobile phone was stolen while he was deployed on duty at Top City Plaza in Kisenyi Cell, Kampala Following investigations, one suspect, Mugabi Richard, was arrested on 18th July 2026 at about 3:00 a.m. at his residence in Kakajo, Kisenyi Cell. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to stealing the police officer's phone while the officer was resting in a vehicle. He further disclosed that he handed the phone to an accomplice, who later sold it for UGX 900,000 to Mugerwa Juma, the proprietor of a mobile phone retail shop at Cooper Complex in Kampala.
