 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. 4 AFRICAN MIGRANTS DROWNED,35 MISSING AFTER A BOAT SANK,NORTH OF MOROCCO YESTERDAY.

                            According to the Spanish sea rescue services,who said four African migrants drowned and up to 35 people were missing after their boat sank in the Mediterranean in the early hours of yesterday thursday around 40 miles north of the Moroccan coast.Lifeguards pulled four bodies from the sea after they were spotted by a Colombian military helicopter helping in the search.Earlier,15 people including two women were rescued from the boat after it lost its bottom and sank.They were found clinging to the wreckage,sea rescued services said.One of those rescued said there had been 54 people in the boat..The Mediterranean between Morocco and Spain was a major route around 10 years ago for migrants from Africa trying to reach Europe,but numbers fell after Spain increased patrols.
