 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. PRESIDENT OF CONGO ''DENIS SASSOU NGUESSO'',RE-WINS THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

                According to Congo's interior minister who said today thursday that Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso has won a new five year term with more than 60 percent of the vote.The Interior Minister Raymond Zephyrin Mboulou said on state television early today thursday morning that oppostion leaders Guy-Brice Parfait Kolelas won 15 percent support in Sundays vote,while retired general Jean-Marie Mokoko won 14 percent.In an interview with Radio France Internationale,Mokoko called for an independent commission to review the tallies from individual polling stations.Residents said Brazzaville and the economic capital Pointe Noire,an opposition stronghold,were quiet but tense on thursday as opposition supporters waited for their candidates to publish their results.Police and soldiers continued to patrol the streets,but the government today thursday lifted a blackout on internet and mobile phone use that it said was meant to prevent unofficial results circulating and causing unrest although.At least 18 people were killed by security forces in protests ahead of a referendum in October that removed term and age limits that would have prevented the 72 year old Sassou Nguesso from running again.One more photo below.
