 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept".       Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says he has forgiven those who plotted to illegally impeach him as Governor.
He spoke on sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Parish North Bank Makurdi during a thanksgiving service in his honour and the Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Avine Agbom
The Governor stated that though he has forgiven the persons behind the failed impeachment move, those who were part of the plot, the affected individuals have the obligation to publicly cleanse the smear they poured on him.
He noted that God always prepares a banquet for him in the midst of his enemies but again anoints him to remain unhurt, stressing that God's mercy and goodness had always sustained him.
The Governor stated that his determination to continue to save lives and property remains unwavering, saying he set up a foundation about 16 years ago to help treat snake bite patients from all parts of the state.
He acknowledged the support of the Church, Mr. Avine Agbom and the entire Benue people to the sustenance of peace in the state.
Governor Ortom directed the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Dennis Dennis A. Ityavyar to construct a block of classrooms at St. Mary's Secondary School North Bank as part of his intervention in the school.
Hon. Avine Agbom while expressing appreciation to the parishioners for their show of love for him and Governor Ortom said his two terms as member of the State Assembly was OK for him, stressing that his concern now was the reelection of the Governor whom he said loves and cares for his subjects.
In a sermon, Fr. Moses Iorapuu urged Christians to avoid anything that would make their names not to be written in the book of life, even as he advised them against fear which according to him had hindered the progress of many.More photos below.
