 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

 Anambra Assembly Adopts Public Petitions Recommendations On Arthur Nwora As Working Document

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution adopting the recommendations of the Public Petitions Committee on the "Wrong Use of Executive Government Power, Intimidation, Incivility, Vindictiveness, Denial Of Right and Wanton Damage and Destruction Of Private Properties Of Chief Arthur Nwora by Anambra State Taskforce Used by Physical Planning in Onitsha Relief Main Market, Through The Instigation of Mr. Louis Onyeabo As The Chairman of the Market" as a working document on the floor of the State Legislature.


This followed a motion moved for its adoption by the member representing Anaocha II constiuency and member of the Committee, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu and seconded by another member, Mr. Golden Iloh representing Ihiala II constiuency during plenary on March 14.


The Speaker of the House, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze had moved for the adoption of the recommendations of the Public Petitions Committee's report while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.


Udeze who presided over the plenary while given progress report of the 'Committee of the Whole' said that the Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions has read out the recommendations of the Committee which include that all sorts of property wrongfully taken away by the respondent through Onitsha North, or any other authority should be reversed to the petitioner with immediate effect.


And that Ejike Okechukwu representing Anaocha II constiuency moved a motion for this Honourable House to adopt the recommendations the report as a working document of this House and Mr. Golden Iloh representing Ihiala II constituency seconded the motion as moved. And the question was put on the floor and was unanimously adopted.


Earlier, the Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions, Mr. Obi Nweke had presented the recommendations of the report of the Committee which include that the petitioner should be allowed to take back part of his building that is sand-filled 40 feet with retention wall to protect his  building and other buildings around his own.


In order to give effect to this, all the authorities especially Physical Planning, ASUDEB, are enjoined to acknowledge the petitioner also trading millions to safeguard the marine modern market from being overflown by river.


"And to aid him to facilitate the necessary approvals that requires that all shops, properties that belong to the petitioner which were taken away from him by the respondent through the Onitsha North Local Government Area or any other authority should be reversed to the petitioner with immediate effect.


"That the Anambra Physical Planning Board is hereby directed to issue to Chief Eugene Arthur Nwora copies of their building plan and all necessary approvals to enable him to construct staircase infront of his building and should be supervised by the Physical Planning upon which money had been paid by him through ANSEED to the Anambra State account.


"That all constructions, allocations and documents dated 1992 to 2010, as transferred to first owners to petitioner as emanated from the Onitsha North LGA, that were declared fake without all the necessary inspection and due process to Onitsha North LGA just to deny the petitioner his right of ownership should be returned to him as the right owner since those who did the transfer to him and signed contract did not deny the fact.


"All the items removed from the petitioner's building when out of destructions are being carried out should be brought back by the respondent", he said.


Nweke noted that both parties were invited and the committee members saw everything when they went to the local area,  and after trials and hearings of both parties, the committee made such recommendations.
