Newly Hired Kaduna Nurses Raise Alarm Over Unpaid Salaries, Call For Urgent Intervention

Two hundred and seventy-three newly recruited nurses in Kaduna State have lamented the non-payment of eight months' salary arrears.

They stated that they were recruited in April 2023.

The nurses, speaking through their representatives, said they began receiving salaries in June this year, with eight months' worth of arrears still outstanding.

According to them, their appointment letters specified a monthly salary of sixty-nine thousand naira, but they have only been receiving forty-five thousand naira since they started receiving payments in February this year.

Expressing concern, the representatives noted that some of their colleagues have since resigned from their positions as they are unable to cope with the challenges of economic hardship and rising transportation costs.

They added that they have contacted the State Commissioner of Health, who made efforts to resolve the issue, but to no avail.

The newly recruited nurses called on the state government to address their plight, as many of them are struggling during this period of economic hardship.
