More than 100,000 children have been displaced by the latest escalation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, UNICEF said on Sunday, warning the numbers are expected to rise as violence spreads. Since Dec. 1, intense fighting has uprooted more than 500,000 people, with children accounting for over 100,000 of those displaced in South Kivu alone, the UN agency said in a statement released Sunday. It said since Dec. 2, hundreds have been killed in the fighting, and children have been among the victims, with four students killed, six injured, and at least seven schools attacked or damaged.  200,000 PDP Members Defect To APC Ahead Of Kaduna LG Polls, Says Gov Uba Sani

Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has claimed that over 200,000 members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in Southern Kaduna.

Governor Sani said the defection was a testament to his administration’s progress in promoting justice, equality, and transparency.

During the flag-off of the APC campaign rally for the October local government election, held in Kaduna on Monday evening, Governor Sani expressed confidence in the APC candidates, assuring them of his full support in advancing rural revitalization and ensuring economic stability across the state.

The governor commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for their commitment and the unprecedented support they have garnered ahead of the local government elections.

Sani further highlighted the significant strides his administration has made in key sectors across the state, particularly in rural revitalisation and infrastructure development.

Governor Sani noted that since assuming office, his government has prioritised rural development, with projects including the construction of 62 roads across 23 local government areas. He added that 60 secondary schools have been built, and over 200 Local Education Authority (LEA) primary and secondary schools have been equipped within the 255 wards of the state.
