Nigerian Designer Sanya Completes Guinness World Record Attempt for Largest Sandal

Liz Sanya, a British-Nigerian shoe designer, has successfully completed her attempt to set the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest sandal. The giant pink clog measures 3.156 meters (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width and 8.147 meters (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length.

Sanya began working on the record-breaking sandal on January 2, 2025, after receiving confirmation from GWR, and finished it by January 4. The 72-hour event took place at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, and was attended by several celebrities, including Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime.

The current record holder, a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, created a sandal that measures 7.45 meters (24 feet 5.31 inches) in length and 3.09 meters (10 feet 1.65 inches) in width.

Reflecting on the accomplishment, Sanya expressed her gratitude to her supporters, emphasizing her connection to Nigeria. "Ibadan is where I was born. Lagos is where I was inspired. It was only right to come back home and prove it," she said. "None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision."
