SOUTH EAST SHOULD EXPECT NEW STATE UNDER TINUBU'S ADMINISTRATION- REPS MEMBER OGAH. (PHOTO).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is keen on creating a new state in the South East region to bring it on par with other zones in the country, according to Amobi Ogah, the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal constituency in the House of Representatives.

Ogah revealed this while addressing his constituents over the weekend, emphasizing that an additional state would help address the marginalization of the South East and drive development.

The proposed new state, Etiti, has already gained momentum, with Ogah's motion for its creation passing a second reading at the House of Representatives.¹ Ogah's colleagues from the South East are united in their support for the new state.

Ogah expressed his appreciation for President Tinubu's commitment to creating the South East Development Commission, which was initially met with skepticism. He also acknowledged the push for Anioma State by Igbo-speaking people from Delta State, but argued that Etiti State would help reduce tension in the zone.

The creation of Etiti State would also address the imbalance in the country's "sharing formula," where regions with more states and local governments receive a larger share of national revenue. Ogah noted that the number of House of Representatives members from two North West states exceeds the total number of representatives from the South East.

Bishop Livinus Bereonwu Onugha of the Okigwe Methodist Diocese, Dr. Dozie Kingsley, former Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other speakers have expressed their support for the proposed Etiti State.
