The new legislation empowers the state to regulate its own electricity market, paving the way for the establishment of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency (ASERA). This agency will oversee the generation, distribution, and regulation of electricity in the state.

Governor Otti expressed his commitment to making Abia a power hub, supplying electricity to other parts of the Southeast and generating revenue from it. He commended the State House of Assembly for their diligent efforts in passing the bill, acknowledging their expertise and exposure.

The Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Ikechukwu Monday, praised the Governor for fulfilling his election promise to provide independent power for the state. He highlighted the law's provisions, which encourage local participation and content, protect against vandalism, and establish guidelines for distribution and regulation.
