 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe. Atiku Insists on Coalition to Unseat Tinubu in 2027, Despite PDP Governors’ Rejection


Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reaffirmed his commitment to forming a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, despite opposition from 11 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors. The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, declared on Monday after a meeting in Ibadan that the party would not join any coalition or merger.


On March 20, 2025, Atiku, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, alongside Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, announced a coalition to defeat Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC). The move has sparked debate, with Atiku advocating for opposition unity to reclaim power.


In their communiqué, the governors stated that the PDP, as a major opposition force, welcomes individuals or groups willing to join the party but rejected any coalition. “The PDP will not join any coalition or merger,” Mohammed said, emphasizing the party’s goal of establishing good leadership in 2027.


Responding through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the governors as key PDP stakeholders but insisted the coalition is a “pan-Nigerian movement” driven by the people. He highlighted internal polling that supported the coalition strategy and called the governors’ stance a prompt for broader consultation, not a setback. “When the governors realize this project has its own momentum, they will align properly,” Atiku said, stressing that Nigerians’ ownership of the initiative makes it resilient.
