 PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE COMMENDS RESILIENCE OF NIGERIAN WORKERS President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Nigerian workers on International Labour Day 2026, praising their resilience, hard work, and patriotism despite economic challenges. In his May Day message, Akpabio described workers as the true heroes of Nigeria’s democracy and the engine of the economy. He said the 10th National Assembly remains committed to improving worker welfare through a living wage, safer workplaces, pension reforms, and job creation and pointed to the passage of the new National Minimum Wage Act and ongoing welfare packages as evidence of that commitment.  The Senate President also urged both public and private employers to prioritize worker welfare, stating that a motivated workforce is key to national productivity and prosperity pledging that the Senate will continue partnering with labour unions to ensure workers’ voices are heard in policymaking, vowing not to relent until ev...

 Abakaliki FC Official Bus Involved in Accident on Benin-Ore Expressway, No Injuries Reported


The official bus carrying officials of Abakaliki Football Club, runners-up in the 2025 President Federation Cup, was involved in a road accident on Sunday along the Benin-Ore Expressway near Ondo. The incident occurred as the team returned to Ebonyi State from Lagos, where they competed in the cup final on Saturday, losing 4-3 to Kwara United in a penalty shootout at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.


According to a statement posted on the club’s official Facebook page, the accident was caused by brake failure, resulting in a collision with a moving truck. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported. 


The club expressed gratitude for the safety of all involved, stating, “To God be the glory, no injury and no life was lost. On our way back from Lagos after our yesterday’s President Federation Cup finals to Ebonyi State today (29/6/2025), one of our vehicles (official’s bus) failed brake along Ondo express highway and hit a moving truck at the back. We thank God, we all are safe and sound.”


The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on major Nigerian highways. Abakaliki FC has not provided further details on the condition of the vehicle or next steps, but the club’s statement underscores relief at the absence of casualties.
