Abuja–Kaduna Road: Transport Employers Commend Uba Sani’s Intervention

Transport operators and their employees have expressed renewed optimism about the speedy completion of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway following the intervention of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

In a statement on Sunday, the Kaduna State chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Hon. Adamu Zubairu Jalaludeen, praised Governor Sani for meeting with the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to fast-track the completion of the project.

Jalaludeen, who also serves as RTEAN’s North-West vice president, described the expressway as a major gateway to the North-West and North-East geopolitical zones, critical for trade and movement across the region.

He noted that the governor’s proactive approach and engagement with the Federal Government had inspired confidence among stakeholders within the transport sector.

According to him, Governor Uba Sani’s decision to personally meet with the Minister of Works on this issue has endeared him to all stakeholders in the transport value chain.

Governor Sani had, on Friday, met with Engr. Umahi to review progress on the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano expressway as part of efforts to enhance intergovernmental collaboration and ensure timely delivery of the project.

Discussions at the meeting focused on accelerating work on the Abuja–Jere–Kaduna section of the expressway, a vital transport corridor relied upon daily by millions of Nigerians for business, travel, and social connectivity.

Governor Sani described the project as a national artery that plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s socio-economic integration and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to modernize infrastructure and promote economic competitiveness.

In his words, “This expressway is not just a road—it is an economic corridor that connects people, markets, and opportunities across northern Nigeria and beyond.”

In response, Engr. Umahi commended Governor Sani for his commitment and constructive partnership. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to complete the project on schedule, revealing that contractors have been directed to work double shifts to hasten delivery without compromising quality.

The minister also assured that the adoption of durable concrete pavement technology would ensure the project’s long-term sustainability and reduce future maintenance costs.
