BENUE PENSIONERS LAUNCH "LET'S JIG IT TOGETHER" MOVEMENT, PLEDGE TO BUY 2027 NOMINATION FORM FOR GOV. ALIA

10th October, 2025

In a remarkable gesture of gratitude and solidarity, the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Benue State Chapter, has pledged to purchase the 2027 governorship nomination form for Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

The group made the announcement during the inauguration of their new support movement, “Let’s Jig It Together,” dedicated to mobilizing support for Alia’s re-election bid.

Speaking at the event in Makurdi, the state capital, the Chairman of the union, Comrade Mike Vembeh, alongside his vice, Michael Agada, said the decision was born out of appreciation for the governor’s commitment to the welfare of retirees in the state.

“Before Governor Alia came, many of us had lost hope. We were dying in silence, unable to afford food or medication. But today, pensions are paid promptly. We are alive, healthy, and hopeful again,” Vembeh stated emotionally.

He noted that members of the union have resolved to contribute from their monthly stipends toward buying the nomination form as a symbolic gesture of thanks for what they described as “a miracle after years of neglect.”

Sharing her experience, a senior member of the group, Madam Dooshima Aondowase, said for the first time in years, she could celebrate her birthday without borrowing money. “Governor Alia has wiped our tears,” she said. “We will mobilize pensioners across all 23 local government areas to jig it together for Alia in 2027.”

According to the pensioners, their initiative transcends politics, representing a movement of gratitude and renewed trust in leadership.

As the 2027 elections approach, the “Let’s Jig It Together” movement has vowed to campaign across the state to ensure continuity of the governor’s “Renewed Hope for Pensioners” programme.

“Governor Alia is God-sent,” the group declared. “We have never had it this good, and we will stand with him, come rain or sunshine.”
