The Traditional Ruler of Azumini Ndoki Ancient Kingdom in Ukwa East LGA, Abia State, HRM Eze Edward Eule (Onyenweali X), has dismissed claims by some of his subjects that he abandoned his throne following his temporary absence from the community. This is as six suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the stealing of the community’s electricity transformer, thus plunging the community into darkness. The monarch, who is currently in the U.S, explained that his trip was to attend to personal and professional matters, adding that he will soon return to Nigeria. "I travelled to the United States of America in May 2025 to attend to some professional and personal matters. I am robustly healthy and fine, and I may soon conclude the task of my sojourn here", he said. Prof. Eule accused individuals he described as "mischief-makers operating under the guise of an Interim Ruling Council" of peddling falsehoods and propaganda about his alleged abdication. ...

Seychelles President Ramkalawan pledges 'dignified' transfer of power after election defeat

President Wavel Ramkalawan has pledged to ensure an “orderly and dignified” transfer of power to Seychelles’ president-elect, Patrick Herminie, following the conclusion of the 2025 presidential run-off elections, TRT Afrika reported.

Ramkalawan and Herminie met informally at State House on Monday to discuss the transition process and exchange views on key national issues, including security, economic stability, and the importance of maintaining peace during the handover.

In a joint commitment, both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding Seychelles’ unity, peace, and democratic tradition as the island nation enters a new political chapter.

Herminie, leader of the opposition, was declared winner of Saturday’s presidential run-off by the country’s electoral commission, becoming Seychelles’ sixth president.

‘Maintaining legacy’

Ramkalawan congratulated his successor, expressing pride in his administration’s achievements.

“I leave with a legacy that makes many presidents blush... I hope President Herminie continues to maintain such a level,” Ramkalawan said.

A French and later British colony, the Seychelles gained independence in 1976.

The first multi-party election was held in 1993 after the adoption of a new constitution.

The archipelago is vulnerable to climate change and is facing rising sea levels, the deterioration of the marine ecosystem – particularly its coral reefs – as well as landslides, flooding, and drought, pointing to the some of the challenges before the incoming leader.

Three-quarters of the country's roughly 120,000 citizens live on Mahe Island, where the capital Victoria is located, according to 2024 World Bank data.
