 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo.  Zimbabwean Tavern Owner Arrested After Alleged Assault Incident


 A Zimbabwean national, known as Easywell, who is renting and operating Jambo Tavern in Lulekani Township, Phalaborwa, has been arrested following an alleged assault incident.


 The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday midnight, 21 December 2025, at or near the tavern.


 According to reports, the tavern owner allegedly chased a male victim, believed to be in his early 20s, with a motor vehicle.


 The victim reportedly fell during the chase, after which the suspect allegedly drove over the victim’s legs and further assaulted him.


 It is further alleged that the victim was taken back to the tavern, where patrons also assaulted him.


 The suspect, with the assistance of a friend, allegedly transported the victim to his place of residence. The victim’s family later contacted the police and emergency medical services (EMS) for assistance.


 The suspect was arrested and appeared before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court on 24 December 2025. The matter was postponed, and the suspect remains in custody. He is expected to return to court on 5 January 2026 facing attempted murder.


 The suspect claimed he suspected the victim of mugging patrons leaving the tavern; however, no related cases have been opened by any patrons to date.
