MEDICAL GUILD PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO MINISTRY OF ESTABLISHMENTS

The Executives of the Medical Guild on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Establishments and Training as part of ongoing engagements with the State Government on issues affecting medical professionals.

Welcoming the delegation, the Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo commended doctors in the state for their dedication and invaluable contributions to healthcare delivery.

He described medical practitioners as critical stakeholders in the state’s development, particularly within the healthcare value chain.

Mr. Ayantayo assured the delegation that the State Government, under the leadership of the Governor, places a high priority on issues relating to the welfare and professional interests of medical doctors.

According to him, the government has continued to demonstrate its commitment by addressing several requests and demands of doctors in recognition of the strategic role they play in safeguarding the health and well-being of citizens.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun advised the Medical Guild to formally forward its requests and proposals to the Ministry through official channels to enable proper documentation and prompt consideration.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Oluwole Olusanya expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner and management of the Ministry for the warm reception and the opportunity to engage directly with government officials.

He highlighted several concerns requiring government attention, including the elongation of the retirement age of doctors from 60 to 65 years, improved effectiveness of advancement and promotion benefits and delays in salary payments for newly employed medical officers, among others.

Dr. Olusanya noted that addressing these issues would not only boost the morale of the doctors but also enhance service delivery within the state’s healthcare system.

The visit ended with assurances of continued dialogue and collaboration between the Medical Guild and the Ministry of Establishments and Training in the interest of sustainable healthcare development in the State.
