DATA GAPS IN EDUCATION; NSSEC - UNICEF PARTNER ON COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT

Challenges surrounding weak data collection systems, poor education planning, and gaps in evidence based policy implementation in Nigeria’s education subsector are receiving renewed attention.

To address these concerns, the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, has entered into a strategic collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, to strengthen data collection and management systems for improved planning and targeted policy interventions.

The Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr Iyela Ajayi, says the partnership will enhance the availability and effective use of reliable data to guide decision making and promote the adoption of emerging technologies, including adaptive learning platforms and virtual laboratories, to enrich the learning experience in senior secondary schools nationwide.

These priorities align with NSSEC’s strategic framework and UNICEF’s education agenda, with a focus on foundational learning, future skills and system strengthening.
