 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  LSSC COLLABORATES WITH PRIVATE SECTOR ON RUGBY GAME 


The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) Director-General, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, has said the agency is collaborating with the private sector to develop Rugby Game which has numerous talents among the youths in Lagos State.


Mr. Lekan Fatodu disclosed this at the Rugby Exhibition African Women All-Star team against the Falcons of Nigeria match which was organised by Alaro City, Rendeavour with the support of Lagos State Sport Commission. 


The Agency’s profound involvement in the All-Star Game, according to the Director-General, was born out of its commitment to supporting, promoting and developing mass participation in all sports across the State. 


He said, “We know the significance of rugby. We have a lot of talents in Lagos State whose sporting interest is actually in rugby. The Lagos State Sport Commission is committed to supporting and promoting mass participation in all sports. So, we want to support in terms of opportunity to collaborate with the private sector to create more infrastructure for sports, and to also stand in the way of supporting the athletes in terms of growth, resources and relevant training that will help them to increase their capacity and ability in the game.’’


 The African Women All-Star Team, made up of players from Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, and Côte d’Ivoire, lost to The Falcons of Nigeria by 30-12.
