 Chadwick Boseman’s family members sue widow Taylor Simone Ledward over control of actor’s estate and alleged unpaid distributions

Chadwick Boseman’s family has filed a legal challenge over the management of the late actor’s estate, with his parents seeking changes to how his assets are handled.

Court documents obtained by Page Six show that Boseman’s brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, filed a lawsuit on behalf of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, asking a Los Angeles court to remove Chadwick’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, as administrator of the estate.

The filing claims Ledward, who inherited 50% of Boseman’s estate, has not distributed the remaining share to his parents as required under a 2022 court order. According to the documents, Leroy and Carolyn were each entitled to 25% of the estate.

“Nearly four years later, [Taylor] has still not distributed the estate,” the filing states.

The family alleges the estate includes more than $3.8 million in assets and cash, and claims Ledward has continued to control estate matters without providing what they describe as a full account of certain assets.

The documents claim those assets include royalties and residual payments, image and intellectual property rights, real estate, a previously undisclosed bank account and other personal property.

The lawsuit also questions payments connected to Boseman’s acting work, including residuals from SAG-AFTRA dating from 2020 onward, which the family claims were not fully accounted for.

Boseman’s brothers further allege that rights connected to the actor’s name, image and intellectual property belong to his heirs but are managed through Chadwick Boseman, Inc., a company they say is controlled by Ledward.

They are asking the court to address what they describe as a lack of transparency and to ensure Boseman’s parents receive their share of the estate.

Boseman died in August 2020 at age 43. He married Ledward before his death, and she later became administrator of his estate.
