 Ghana's government approves recommendation to extend presidential term from four to five years, lowers minimum age requirement to 35 Ghana's government has approved in principle a proposal to extend the tenure of both the president and Parliament from four years to five years as part of a broader constitutional reform process. The recommendation came from a committee established by President John Dramani Mahama in 2025 to review the country's 1992 Constitution. Announcing the decision on Thursday, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, said the extension is aimed at giving elected governments more time to implement their policies, noting that new administrations spend their early months settling into office while the final year is often dominated by election activities.  NIGERIA SECURES 500 MILLION DOLLARS FOR VACCINES & PRIMARY HEALTH CARE FROM GAVI


Nigeria has secured about five hundred  million dollars support for vaccines and primary healthcare from Gavi.


This followed high-level discussions between the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor  Muhammad Ali Pate, and Gavi Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sania Nishtar, in Abuja.


The funding, approved under the Gavi 6.0 programme, will support Nigeria's efforts to accelerate routine immunisation, sustain polio eradication, expand HPV vaccination, strengthen primary healthcare services and improve long-term vaccine financing.


Professor Pate welcomes Gavi's country-focused reforms, including the introduction of a five-year funding envelope, noting that the about five hundred million dollars allocation will enable Nigeria to plan more effectively and deliver life-saving vaccines to more children and vulnerable populations.
