FAMILY OF FIVE FOUND DEAD IN THEIR APARTMENT IN LAGOS A businessman identified as Lawrence Olorungbon, his wife, and three children have been found dead in their apartment in Apapa area of Lagos. The state Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, has begun an investigation as to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and the cause of death of the victims. The deceased and his family were found dead after his secretary who couldn't reach him on the phone, visited his home to ascertain why he was incommunicado. She knocked severally on the door but there was no response. The secretary said an offensive odour pervaded the air and that there were flies buzzing around. She immediately alerted policemen at the Apapa division who visited the scene and forced the entrance door open, to behold the bodies in their decomposing state. Abducted Cleric Admits N100m Was Paid For His Release The kidnapped Prelate of the Methodist Church, His Eminence Samuel Uche, on Tuesday said N100m was paid as ransom before he was released. At a press conference in Lagos, the cleric said the monies were arranged in five sacks of N20 million. The funds, he noted, were raised by the Methodist church in Nigeria. He also claimed that neither the Federal or State Government, nor the military or police intervened. The cleric was kidnapped on Sunday in Abia State but was released on Monday.  

LAGOS : Govt dismisses anxiety over Okada ban The Lagos State Government has noted the anxiety that has followed the planned enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles in six local government areas as from June 1. The local governments are: Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Apapa, Eti-Osa and Ikeja. The law enforcement agencies went on a road show today to assure the public that the ban, which was announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on May 18, after a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, will be enforced without any compromise.  There is no need for any anxiety over the enforcement of the ban, which has been hailed by the majority of Lagosians as a reinforcement of the Lagos Traffic Law 2012 (amended in 2018). LNSA, OTHER AGENCIES SHOW READINESS. The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency and other Security Agencies operating in Lagos State paraded selected streets of lagos in a joint show of force recently.  The long convoy of personnel including a detachment of the Nigeria Police, the Army, the Navy, the Airforce, the NSCDC, FRSC, OP-MESA, Rapid Response Squad, LASTMA and LNSC touched some known hotspots including Apapa, Ojuelegba, Lagos Island and parts of Eti-Osa in a rare display of collaboration against the common enemies of the people.  In a brief interaction with newsmen, the General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Prince Dr Ifalade Oyekan said, "this is not just about the Okada ban in some Lagos metropolis, but a signal to criminals and criminal minded individuals that It is no longer business as usual for people of clandestine intentions."  Prince Oyekan also pointed out the need for the Agencies to prepare towards the forthcoming elections ...

I Will Not Step Down For Anybody - Tinubu  An anticipated bid by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt the consensus arrangement in picking its presidential aspirant may turn out to be hard nut to crack for the governing party, as one its frontline presidential aspirants, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, insisted before the party’s presidential screening committee that he will never step down for any preferred candidate. Other aspirants, apart from Tinubu and one of the presidential hopefuls said they had no option than to bow to whims of the party in the spirit of party supremacy in the event where the party chooses to settle for a consensus presidential candidate. “Only two others had reservations. But essentially everyone agreed that the interest of the party is sacrosanct. Tinubu outrightly disagreed. He said the only circumstance he would agree is if he emerges as the consensus candidate,” a source close to the screening panel told this paper last night.  

Unknown Gunmen Invade Schools In Ogbaru, Anambra Over Biafra Day There is pandemonium as gunmen invaded schools in Onitsha and some parts of the Idemili area of Anambra State, chasing students out of the classrooms. The gunmen were said to also invade markets and public places to chase people away. It was gathered that the gunmen claimed that people should go home saying today is “Biafra Day”. Every May 30 is set aside yearly to celebrate Biafra Day but this year’s edition coincided with the Monday sit-at-home which was observed yesterday. The hoodlums were said to insist that today must be observed as sit-at-home to mark the annual Biafra Day because yesterday was the normal Monday sit-at-home day and not Biafra Day.
