Catholic Priests Not Like ‘Fake Bishops’, Atiku Blasts Presidency’s Attack On Onaiyekan Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the Presidency’s attack on the Catholic Church and John Cardinal Onaiyekan, accusing the President Bola Tinubu administration of growing intolerant of dissent and uncomfortable truths. In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu on Sunday, Atiku said the Presidency chose intimidation and political attacks instead of reflecting on the substance of the cleric’s message. Catholic bishops had recently had an engagement with the president, where the latter defended his record and the independence of the electoral umpire.  Why I became a gun-runner – Bauchi man A Bauchi State-based man, Taimako Mato, arrested alongside four others has disclosed the reason behind his decision to join a gun-running syndicate to supply arms and ammunition to terrorists. Mato disclosed this while being paraded at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Tuesday. According to the resident of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, he possessed his first ammunition after some Boko Haram members attacked his community in 2015 but were repelled by security operatives and youths in the area.  Nigerian economy to hit $400bn by 2026 – Rewane The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Bismarck Rewane, has projected that the Nigerian economy would grow by 3.5 per cent by 2026, pushing the country’s gross domestic product to approximately $400bn. He disclosed this at the Access Bank Customer Forum held in Lagos on Thursday.  “The Nigerian economy will grow at 3.5 per cent (approximately $400bn). Nigeria is on track to becoming the second-largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa,” Rewane said. He added that the country’s foreign exchange auction system would become more efficient, with unencumbered foreign reserves reaching $20bn. “There will be an efficient forex auction system, and unencumbered foreign reserves will hit $20bn,” he noted.  Imo communities groan over deplorable roads Communities in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State have decried the deplorable state of the roads in the area which they said was causing them untold hardship. The deplorable roads were neglected by past administrations. The communities spoke with newsmen recently through a socio-cultural organization in Ngor Okpala, known as the Ngor Okpala Renaissance League, lamenting that the challenge had also created economic and educational problems for residents of the communities.
