 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. NO RIFT BETWEEN DIEZIANI ALISON AND ANDREW YAKUBU-NNPC.

              According to a national news paper,the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation {NNPC} has said that their is no rift between the Minister of Petroleum Resources,Mrs Dieziani Alison Madueke,and the Group Managing Director of  NNPC, Mr Andrew Yakubu.The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Group General Manager,Public Affairs Division of NNPC,Mr Ohi Alegbe.The statement said the Minister and GMD were in harmonious working relationship and dismissed insinuations of a frosty relationship between the two.It alsi denied that the minister was doing everything to thwart the proposed investigation into the alleged N10billion purportedly spent on the charter of jets by the corporation.The statement said further that the minister and corporation were putting together all the documents that the National Assembly requested for in the matter and added that at the end of the probe minister and corporation would be vindicated.It also said that all agencies in the ministry were working in concert with other key downstream operators to ensure the realization of the zero fuel ques aspiration of the minister.
