 Renowned 20th-century philosopher Jürgen Habermas dies at 96 Jürgen Habermas, the German philosopher widely recognized for his contributions to modern political thought and democratic theory, died Saturday in Starnberg, Germany, at the age of 96. His passing was confirmed in a statement by his Berlin-based publisher, Suhrkamp Verlag, which noted that Habermas’s work, translated into more than 40 languages, had left a lasting impact on global intellectual discourse. Jonathan Landgrebe, head of the publishing house, described him as “a significant philosopher, ever-present advisor, and dear friend.” For more than six decades, Habermas helped shape postwar and post-reunification German political life. He is best known for conceptualizing the “public sphere,” a domain for discussion free from state influence, which he argued is essential for a functioning democracy. THE LEG OF A LAWMA WORKER FUNKE WAS AMPUTATED,AFTER A BUS DRIVER CHINEDU KNOCKED HER DOWN AT IGANDO.

                  38 year old Obi Chinedu a public bus driver,has been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrate for allegedly knocking down a staff of Lagos State Waste Management Authority,LAWMA,which led to the amputation of her leg in a hospital in Lagos state.The incident happened at Cele bus stop along Isheri-Igando expressway where the victim Mrs Funke Olorunda was on official duty.She was rushed to Igando General Hospital where she was referred to the National Orthopedic Hospital in Igobi Lagos.Due to the seriousness of the injury she sustained,her left leg was amputated to save her life.She is now walking with one leg with the aid of a walking stick.The bus driver was arrested and detained at the police station in Idimu Division before he was charged to court with driving in a dangerous manner and knocking down Funke which caused amputation of her leg.Chinedu,through his counsel,informed the court about his regrets concerning the accident and expressed his willingness to settle the matter out of court and treat the victim.The presiding Magistrate,Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.Chinedu was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail condition.The case was adjourned till 6th of September,2015.
