Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  PDP Hails INEC’s Publication Of 2027 Candidates


The Peoples Democratic Party has welcomed the publication by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the names of candidates for the 2027 general election, describing the development as a proof of doubts over its ability to field a presidential candidate had been laid to rest.


A statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the release of the names of its presidential candidate, Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, and running mate, Alhaji Babangida Umar, alongside its National Assembly candidates, marked a significant milestone in its preparations for the 2027 polls.


The Party noted that the publication had effectively dispelled months of speculation and what it described as misinformation by political opponents who had claimed the party would be unable to present a presidential candidate.


It expressed appreciation to its members and supporters across the country and in the diaspora for remaining steadfast during what it described as a challenging period in the party’s history.


The statement further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, the judiciary and security agencies for discharging their constitutional responsibilities, saying their commitment to the rule of law had strengthened public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.


The PDP reiterated its commitment to reconciliation and internal cohesion, extending what it called “an open hand” to aggrieved members.
