 Niger says soldiers, civilians killed in armed attack on Niamey airport An attack by armed men on an airport in Niger’s capital has killed 11 soldiers and two civilians, according to the country’s defence ministry, five months after a major assault. Twenty-two armed attackers were also killed in the assault and about 20 suspects were apprehended, the ministry added in a press statement read out on national television on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported. Soldiers in Niamey fought suspected rebels around the Diori Hamani International Airport and a military airbase on Thursday, sources told Al Jazeera earlier in the day. A source said gunmen affiliated with an armed group attacked at approximately 6:00am (05:00 GMT) local time. One airport employee who lives near the airport told Al Jazeera he heard heavy exchanges of gunfire and saw a large military deployment as he drove towards work and decided to turn back for safety. LAGOS FLAGS OFF 2018 WORLD WATER DAY.

     Lagos Water Corporation has flagged-off the 2018 World Water Day with Free Water Test campaign at various locations across the metropolis.
Speaking to the LWC Quality Assurance as well as Sales & Commercial Department teams before take off, the Head of the Department, Mrs. Monsurat Banire enjoined the Staff to be worthy Ambassadors of the Corporation, urging them to be polite in answering questions and friendly to all as they are esteemed customers of the Corporation.
She said the three-day event is expected to cover the eight operational regions of LWC, for easy accessibility, adding that “You are expected to take samples of water used in the locations cover irrespective of the source, either it is LWC, borehole or any other.
According to her, the essence is to show the general public the quality of water the Corporation is serving the public compared to what is obtained from other sources such as boreholes.
Banire maintained that LWC distributed water is clean, safe and good for human consumption and urged Lagosians to migrate/connect to it due to conformity with World Health Organisation’s Standard.She said this year’s theme:  “NATURE FOR WATER”, explores how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century, stressing that environmental damage, together with climate change, is causing the water-related crises, floods, drought and water pollution around the world.She cautioned that neglect of our ecosystems makes it harder to provide everyone with the water we need to survive and thrive.
