 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

Senator IG Abana Awards Scholarships To 58 Indigent Students. 


More than 58 indigent students from Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State have benefited from the scholarship scheme of former Senator I.G. Abana in a ceremony witnessed by the residents of the community.

The award will be implemented through the Senator IG Abana Foundation. 

It has been over eight years of the Foundation living up to the tenets of its motto, "Touching Lives Positively" with its vision as scholarship scheme for indigent but intelligent secondary school and university students, financial empowerment for small scale entrepreneurs, particularly women, free medical health services for the sick, special health intervention scheme for patients with terminal health conditions, food assistance to the very poor and establishment of Centre for the Elderly for their good health, maintenance and welfare.

The scholarship was awarded to 35 undergraduates and 23 secondary school pupils. 

It will see each undergraduate go home with a cheque of N100,000 bursary every year. 

Speaking, a priest Reverend Fr. Chukwukaodinaka Oragu described Abana as a grassroots philanthropist, who could do anything that is beneficial for his people, stressing that the gesture is worthy of emulation.

He said Senator Abana had left indelible marks in heart of the the residents and that the the scholarship would put smiles on faces of the indigent.

For Senator Abana, his passion for education motivated the gesture, adding it was through education that the best humanity could be felt.

 Senator Abana  pointed out there are brilliant students who cannot afford their fees or acquire university education, saying that the responsibility is on the society to assist such students and their parents as education breeds development.

He added that elderly  have also benefited from the foundation scheme in ensuring that they maintain good body as challenged well meaning individuals to take up the responsibility of looking after the poor and elderly.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mr. Benson Egu, David Anunobi and Cecilia Akabuike all expressed gratitude to Senator Abana and his foundation, saying that they are overjoyed to benefit from the kind gesture as it will go a long way to boost their individual livelihood.
