  Atiku Fires Back at Obasanjo, Says He Stood by Ex-President in Prison and After Release Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent criticism, insisting he stood by the former military ruler during his incarceration and after his release from prison, and declaring that history cannot be rewritten. Obasanjo had on Friday described his decision to pick Atiku as his running mate in the 1999 presidential election as the biggest mistake of his presidency. He made the remark in Lagos during a fireside conversation with entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, at the public presentation of Charly Boy’s foundation and memoir, *999: A Memoir in Tribute to Late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa*. Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo received the Vice-President-elect Senator Kashim Shettima for a familiarisation tour of the Vice Presidential Wing at the Aso Rock Villa.


Shettima, while addressing State House correspondents after the visit said, “At the invitation of Vice President Osinbajo, who is not only a friend but also a contemporary, I came here to exchange ideas on how to propel the nation forward. Out of courtesy, he personally guided me through the offices, and I must commend and express gratitude to him for extending such courtesy. It was indeed a cross-pollination of ideas.


“President Tinubu will not have the luxury of time. As for myself, I don’t want to make presumptuous or grand claims, but based on my interactions with him, it is evident that we will hit the ground running from the very first day.”.
