 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville. Anambra State Chapter Of Nigeria Girls Guide Celebrates International Day Of The African Child.




In commemoration of the 2023 International Day of the African Child, the Trefoil Guild of the Nigerian Girl Guide Association has joined the rest of the world to mark the celebration. 


The celebration was marked with students to create awareness on the situation of children in Africa.


The event which took place at St. Paul’s College Nibo-Nise attracted past and present commissioners of the association led by the Anambra Commissioner of association, Mrs. Charity Ezeakunne among and numerous others.


Every year, June 16 is the celebrated as the International Day of the African Child. 


It was first established by the then Organization For African Unity in 1991 to honour and in the memory of the victims of 1976 students uprising in Soweto, South Africa. 


The State Coordinator, Trefoil Guild of the Nigerian Girl Guide Association, Anambra state Dr. Ngozi Okpala represented by the Secretary, Dr. Ifeatu Oranusi, pointed out that the event aims at creating awareness for the situation of children in Africa and on the need for improvement in education, health and nutrition.


For the National Trainer Of the Nigeria Girls Guide, Dr Mrs. Helen Obi, leadership training is paramount in growing and developing the girl child and maintained that leadership is a shared journey which should be monitored and nurtured for the best interest of children and country.


She asked them to be disciplined, speak up, exhibit tolerance and to sacrifice in order to be prepared to  assume the position of leadership in the country.


A guest lecturer and Anambra State Debate Coordinator, Mrs. Amaka Anekwe who spoke on the topic titled “Unlocking Your Potential “ insistex that every child has individual potential and as such should be guided to discover their talents and align them with activities, programmes and company that will  help and nourish their talents that will in future place them above their contemporaries around the world. 


Responding, some of the students, Esther Onwukaigbo and Godswill Anaekwe appreciated the group for the lecture, saying that it has helped them to broaden their minds on existing opportunities and careers.
