 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being.  "I was delighted to host members of the 10th House of Representatives, who visited at the Imo State Governor's Lodge Abuja, wherein I affirmed the Party's choice of leadership as best for everyone.


The Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas / Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu joint ticket for Speakership and Deputy Speakership is a product of the elected members of the 10th House of Representatives, conceived in their wisdom and as a democratically-oriented party, we are in support of their choice.


The choice of National Assembly leadership must be considered with respect to the individual credibility capable of handling the dynamics of current socioeconomic situations in the country and synergizing with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government for the actualisation of the Renewed Hope.

 

While commending the Honourable Members for their choices, which are appropriate at this time in the history of our nation, I urged them to do their best in reaching out to aggrieved members and close ranks ahead of the June 13th inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
